So, here's a blog I can't really put on Myspace..
Winter has finally hit for real.. It's a relief in a way... the odds of it leaving on time with how mild it's been were slim.. so if it stays bad for awhile it might really end. However, I got another car when I had some unexpected money come in (my grandmother's estate was sold.. she died over a year ago and I did not know until a week before recieving the money that I was getting anything).. My car at the time wouldn't start at all in the cold.. and was just a huge mess.. so I looked, and got one within my price range (not a whole lot.. $2000).. but the body is perfect, it ran great.. no noticeable problems.. winter finally gets here and guess what ... won't start in the winter.. already changed the spark plugs which was part of the problem (seeing that the ones in it where so corroded they broke off inside the engine.. grr).. and now.. lowest temps and worst snow in years.. guess what..
NO HEAT.. my thermostat is the most likely culprit.. so, I bought the parts.. they are in the car, but the guy who said he'd put them on for me never does. He keeps forgetting.. then saying.. well.. tomorrow.. Problem is.. the car starts if I can get it warmed up.. with no heat that is a problem.. not to mention the layer of ice that forms on the inside of my windshield because the defrost is blowing cold air onto it (if I turn the defrost off all of my windows end up foggy anyway).. So, I give up.. tomorrow I am going to attempt changing the thermostat on my own.. I was told by someone else that all I have to do is unscrew two screws and take the old one out.. put the new one in and screw it back.. *crossing fingers* (not going to count on it because same person told me the spark plugs would take 10 minutes.. and they took three days and the weight of 3 men to get done... and then I bought starter fluid.. which if I am able to find the blower I am going to use.. (it was already 11 pm when I bought it.. way too dark to deal with it.. with a 45 minute+ drive home in the freezing cold.. )
Now.. the good news?.. if I keep fixing these problems, the car I have is great.. and will last a lot longer.. a '96 chevy corsica with no rust, no dents, ... perfect body.. and most of the problems stem from someone apparently just not wanting to deal with the upkeep anymore.. Other good news?... I wanted to learn how to work on my own cars for awhile.. but with 10,000 or more spent, that doesnt' seem like a good idea.. so, having spent just under 2,000 I'm not as worried about it. I'm not going to do anything really crazy, but I'm not going to stress out either. I'll deal with one problem at a time until I I don't have a problem, then I'll look at getting money aside for anything I haven't already dealt with.
Nothing terribly interesting yet.. but the part that makes it so that I can't put it on Myspace?.. Today the police had a warning out.. "don't go out on the roads, emergencies only" EVERYTHING was shut down.. factories, malls, movie theaters, HIGHWAYS.. some roads.. complete white out conditions.. can't see more than a foot in front of your car (much of the town is by the lakes, so, pretty open.. 45 mile an hour winds moving with snow coming on it).. and my car won't start.. After 2 hours of trying to jump it I called in and said I couldn't come in to work.. (no one would drive me in because of the conditions.. and even if I could find a way in, none of them would come get me when I closed at midnight).. I got bitched out by one of the owner's kids!.. He's there manager when they are not there .. (of course he has no experience in a restaurant of any kind and three of the workers have been in THAT restaurant for over 10 years).. but.. he bitched me out about not coming in.. (now, it must be noted that he lives 3 minutes away from the place, so had no real problem getting there.. he could have even walked it despite the cold with no problem).. I'm sorry, but when the police are saying to stay off the road you can not threaten me when I call out.. I ended up going in because after the 4th hour of jumping the car it started.. I was told the roads in town weren't too bad.. (of course I was told this from someone going the opposite way.. my drive to work is mostly lakefront.. so guess what.. complete white out the entire drive.. having to stop every 10 minutes or so to use the ice scraper on the inside of the windshield when I couldn't see because of that.. ).. and driving home.. guess what. still white out.. still no heat (I tried to buy a battery operated hair dryer to get rid of the ice but of course the one 24 hour store over on that side of town didn't have one).. and to top it all off?.. A mild case of frost bite... Granted it could be worse.. but even WITH gloves I got frost bite. I should have just went with my instinct and stayed home.
Oh well.. I'm home now.. and not really pissed.. just annoyed.. but am in a decent mood to be honest... I really needed to vent.. Feel free to ignore at your liesure.
